FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Investigators have identified the man who was struck and killed by a vehicle in Fall River.
According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office, Robert Forcier, 94, died after the vehicle he was getting out of rolled down a driveway on top of him.
Police were called to the home on Newhall Street around 1:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of an elderly man being run over by a vehicle in a driveway.
The preliminary investigation showed that a 65-year-old woman had driven Forcier and his wife to visit family in the area.
When they arrived at the home, Forcier attempted to quickly get out of the vehicle despite his need for assistance and the use of a cane.
The driver of the vehicle rushed to get out of the car to help him get out, but apparently never fully engaged the gear shift into the parked position.
Both the victim and the driver were knocked to the ground by the opened front doors of the vehicle as it began to roll down the driveway.
Forcier was run over by the right front tire while lying on the ground. The driver had her right hand run over by the left front tire.
Both were rushed to St. Anne’s Hospital. Forcier was pronounced dead and the female driver was treated for severe injuries to her hand and arm.
Investigators say this appears to be an accidental death but remains under active investigation by Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and Fall River police.
