TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after the suspect in an hours-long standoff was found dead inside a Taunton home Tuesday evening.
Taunton Police Chief Edward Walsh said officers were called to the home on Grant Street around 2:15 p.m. for reports of a domestic incident.
Walsh said officers learned upon their arrival that the suspect, identified as Peter Rose, 41, was barricaded inside the residence with a firearm.
Police and SWAT team members set up a perimeter outside the apartment and made several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with Rose.
Around 8 p.m., police say they were able to enter the house using a robotic device and found Rose unresponsive and suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A single .40 caliber spent casing was located near the body and a .40 caliber Glock firearm was found directly next to him, police added.
