FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Police arrested a Fall River man in connection with two shooting incidents while they were investigating a separate shooting in the city.
According to the Fall River Police Department, officers were canvassing the area of Tecumseh and Blackstone Streets on Feb. 6 when they spotted Kevin Nunes.
Police said Nunes was a person of interest in a Dec. 26 shooting on Tecumseh Street and another on Jan. 30 near Snell and Terrance Streets.
Nunes was seen walking around the yard of the Tecumseh Street residence where the first shooting occurred, according to police. When officers approached him, they said he seemed shaken and was visibly nervous. Since police knew Nunes did not live on Tecumseh Street, they asked why he was circling the home.
Nunes told police he was “in a bad mood” and “just out for a walk.”
Police said they detained Nunes and as they questioned him, he sent and received several text messages. As officers searched the yard, they found several trash barrels, furniture, children’s toys, trash, and boxes. Police then discovered a firearm behind one of the boxes.
As police retrieved the gun, Nunes tried to flee but was quickly apprehended and transported to police headquarters.
As they were booking Nunes on a firearms charge, police said they received a report of breaking and entering at his Kennedy Street home. Eyewitnesses told police they saw two men coming up from the basement and after a confrontation, they drove off in a black Lexus.
There were no signs of forced entry at the home, according to police, and nothing appeared to be missing. With the consent of the residents, police searched the home with the exception of Nunes’ room.
The vehicle, which was being used by Nunes, was located a block away from where he was arrested and the owner gave police permission to search it.
Inside the car, officers found two large bags of marijuana, a scale, and sandwich bags. The owner of the car said those items were not inside of it prior to Nunes borrowing it. With these details, police obtained a search warrant for Nunes’ room.
During the search, police said they found more than $19,000 in cash, two rounds of ammunition, and a small amount of marijuana.
Police said Nunes now faces several firearms and drug charges.
