NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway into what sparked a fire in a New Bedford apartment building Friday morning.

Firefighters rushed to County Street around 7 a.m. and found smoke billowing from the building.

The roof caved in as firefighters worked to knock down the flames.

Heavy smoke was seen billowing from the building and the roof caved in.

The first floor of the building is home to Tony’s Café and Bar, while the upper floors are apartments.

The three residents living in the apartments were home at the time and escaped safely. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
