Crews respond to apparent fire at Brayton Point

SE Mass

SOMERSET, Mass. (WPRI) — A fire appeared to have broken out Monday morning at the former Brayton Point Power Plant, which is currently being demolished.

Smoke could be seen pouring out of a structure just before 11 a.m. and firefighters were spraying it down with water.

The cause is unclear at this time.

Three of the former power plant’s shorter chimneys have already been knocked down while the two larger cooling towers are scheduled to be demolished later this month.

Eyewitness News has calls out for more details. This story will be updated with the latest information.
