SWANSEA, Mass. (WPRI) — Two elderly women are recovering from minor injuries after the car they were in crashed through a set of double doors and into the foyer of the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Birchcrest on Gardners Neck Road in Swansea.

Swansea Fire Department says the first call came in around 9 o’clock Saturday morning, and that the crash occurred during a funeral service in the adjacent room at the funeral home.

After crashing into the main lobby, the car rested against a gas fireplace. Crews shut off gas service to the funeral home immediately.

According to a Swansea Fire dispatch, the women were taken to the hospital, mainly for evaluation, and suffered minor injuries. No one inside the funeral home was hurt in the incident. Saturday night, the front entrance could be seen boarded up until it can be repaired.
