TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Five people were displaced after a fire broke out inside a Taunton home Monday afternoon.
Crews rushed over to Prospect Street around 2:20 p.m. and arrived to find smoke pouring out of one of the windows, according to a Deputy Fire Chief Scott Dexter.
Dexter said “quite a few” people were inside at the time but police were already on scene and had escorted them out of the home.
“As soon as I pulled up, one of the police officers notified me that everybody was out of the building, which is obviously a good thing to hear,” Dexter said. “We work hand-in-hand all the time, and they did a good job in that respect.”
Firefighters were able to make quick work of the flames and much of the fire damage was confined to one room, according to Dexter, though there was additional smoke and water damage.
“Unfortunately, smoke and water does a lot of damage in itself,” he said. “We try to keep it minimized but that doesn’t always happen.”
No injuries were reported.
