DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — Two Dartmouth police officers were exposed to fentanyl during a traffic stop Saturday afternoon.

The officers had a car stopped on State Rd. just after 12:30 p.m. and were placing a suspect under arrest.

During the process, they were exposed to the drug, which was secreted inside both the vehicle and the suspect’s wallet.

Both officers were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where they were evaluated and later released.

The operator of the vehicle, identified as Jared Barbosa, 29, of Fall River, was arrested on two outstanding warrants, both of which were drug-related.

Additional charges associated with the fentanyl against Barbosa are pending.
