Woman killed after car slams into pole in Providence

Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are investigating a deadly crash that occurred early Wednesday morning in Providence.

The two-car crash around 5:30 a.m. on Vandewater Street resulted in one car slamming into a utility pole killing the woman inside, fire officials confirm.

“One car struck a pole, and transformers came down on top of that car landing on the occupant area of the vehicle,” Battalion Chief Kevin Jutras said.

Crews had trouble reaching the victim because of the live wires that came down. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The person in the other vehicle was hospitalized with minor injuries.

No additional information has been released at this time.
