Providence
Rhonda Ziehl VA of the year

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Providence regional office of the Department of Veterans Affairs honored Rhonda Ziehl, their first Rhode Island Woman Veteran of the Year, on Thursday afternoon.

Ziehl specialized as a bomb-sniffing dog handler in the Air Force, and her service included security support to President George W. Bush and Vice President Dan Quayle, according to the Providence Journal.

Ziehl is part of a military family: she’s married to a fellow Air Force veteran, and her son is currently serving in the military. She also takes part in multiple local programs saluting veterans and their families.
