PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The R.I. Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is warning Rhode Islanders that one of its branches will be closed Tuesday due to severe flooding.

The Providence branch, located at 325 Melrose St., will be closed through at least Wednesday, according to officials.

Crews say they will be cleaning up throughout the day and will assess all of the equipment to see what needs to be replaced.

About 20 inches of water flooded the building, officials said, destroying hundreds of files and records as well as causing electrical damage.

DMV staff contacted the 85 customers who had road tests and the 20 customers with vehicle inspections to reschedule their appointments.

All other DMV offices and online services have not been affected and are still open.
