PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have arrested a man who they say was the getaway driver for an armed robbery at the Family Dollar on Chalkstone Avenue Monday night.

According to the Providence Police Department, 24-year-old Kpormen Johnson was charged with armed robbery in connection with his role.

Police said a second suspect entered the store Monday night with a firearm, demanding money from the store clerk. The suspect was wearing a black mask.

According to police, the suspect took cash from two different drawers and then ran out of the store. Police are still searching for that second suspect.

Police said several stores, including CVS and Walgreens, were recently robbed as well. It’s unclear at this time if Johnson is connected to the string of robberies and right now he is only charged with the one that occurred Monday night.

Johnson was arraigned Tuesday and did not enter a plea.
