Police make arrest in downtown Providence murder

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Pawtucket man faced a judge Monday after he was arrested in connection with a recent murder in downtown Providence.

According to police, Pofinima Mabuo Gweama Jr. is charged with shooting and killing David Long on Fountain Street around 4 a.m. the day after Christmas.

Gweama 29, was ordered held without bail following his arraignment.

Police said the murder, which remains under investigation, appeared to be drug-related. It was the city's 11th homicide of the year.

Long's father told Eyewitness News his son left behind a 10-year-old daughter.
