Police arrest 4 suspected gang members in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police arrested four suspected gang members after they saw them acting suspiciously in Providence Friday evening.

Providence Police Sgt. Jonathan Kantorski of the Violent Crimes Task Force said the team was doing surveillance work in the Washington Park neighborhood when they spotted a car with some “known gang members” in it.

When the four men noticed the authorities, police said the men sped off. Eventually, the men ditched the car and fled on foot.

Providence resident Knesa Luciano said she was home when she heard a ruckus outside.

“I was in the house and the trash cans were making a bunch of noise,” Luciano said. “I peeked out and the cops were flying over the fence and a kid was flying over the fence.”

Luciano said one of the men tossed a handgun into the trash can in her backyard, which officers later recovered.

Police took all four men into custody, though it’s unclear at this time what charges they may be facing.
