Man robbed during home invasion in Providence

Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence Police are investigating a home invasion that happened on Waldo Street Sunday morning.

Investigators say that the 53-year-old victim was watching tv when two masked men kicked in his door and forced their way inside.

One suspect was armed with a gun.  The victim told police they were looking for drugs.

The first floor apartment is supposed to be Yarinet Rivera’s soon.  Eyewitness News spoke with her Sunday afternoon.

“We came here to see the house so we could start moving today, and when we came here we saw the door.  It was broken and they guy was inside.  They told us what happened last night,” Rivera said.

Rivera says she spoke with the victim.

“He was so scared last night,” Rivera said.  “We don’t live around here so we don’t know nobody here, so hopefully it won’t happen again.”

A tweet sent out by Commander Thomas Verdi Sunday morning gave more details.  It said two Hispanic men realized they were in the wrong house and fled with the victim’s wallet.

“What they looking for, they didn’t find it yesterday, so I don’t think that it’s gonna happen,” Rivera said.

The victim was not injured in the incident.  Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
