PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man arrested in connection with the death of a 15-year-old girl faced a judge Monday morning.

Juan Pizarro, 34, was arraigned on charges of distribution of a controlled substance and conducting a controlled substance transaction resulting in the death of a minor.

He was held without bail and is due back in court May 1.

According to court documents, Pizarro gave the 15-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl Percocet pills at the Motel 6 in Warwick around 1:30 a.m. on April 3.

A short time after the three left the motel, Pizarro was pulled over and told the police officer he was their uncle and was bringing them home. Police said the two teenagers “did not appear in distress or under the influence at that time and when asked stated Pizarro was their uncle.”

He was let go with a warning, court documents show.

As the three of them were heading back to Providence, the 13-year-old became concerned for the 15-year-old and asked Pizarro to drop them off at their friend’s Atwells Avenue apartment, according to court documents.

When they got there, court documents say it appeared the 15-year-old girl had passed out. The teenager was then found dead in the apartment around 3:30 p.m.

The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) said the teenager was temporarily in their custody, but she ran away from home and was reported missing.

“DCYF is working with the family to provide support during this difficult time,” a spokesperson said.

The teenager has not been identified.
