PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Marie Bernardo-Sousa has been appointed as preside of the Providence campus of Johnson & Wales University.

Bernardo-Sousa has been serving at the university as the JWU Senior Vice President of Administration and Enrollment Management since 2014.

“Dr. Bernardo-Sousa’s deep knowledge of the campus’ operations, her strong communication and leadership skills, and her lifelong commitment to all things JWU made her our unanimous choice to be the next president of the Providence Campus,” said JWU Chancellor Runey.

Bernardo-Sousa first came to JWU as an undergraduate student, with her first job at the university was in the registrar’s office in 1988.

She holds a Doctorate in Law and Policy from Northeastern University, a Master of Science degree in Human Resources from Emmanuel College, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Johnson & Wales University.

Bernardo-Souza says she is thrilled for her new role.

“I am inspired by this opportunity to lead the JWU Providence Campus, a community that takes pride in both its educational mission and the character of its faculty and staff and has the courage to embark on bold and ambitious plans,” said President Bernardo-Sousa.
