PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Hasbro Children’s Hospital has taken over Rhode Island airwaves with its annual Radiothon.
According to the hospital’s parent group, Lifespan, the money raised during the 15-hour long fundraiser supports patient care, lifesaving programs and research.
More than 100 people volunteered their time to answer the phones and accept donations.
Throughout the day, families who’ve spent time at the hospital share their stories with listeners. Many of them say the hospital and its staff helped save their child’s life.
Eyewitness News Anchor Shannon Hegy and her husband, Matt, were one of the many families featured in this year’s Radiothon. They shared the story of their infant son Carter’s brave battle with bacterial meningitis and how the hospital supported them all throughout Carter’s treatment.
