Guided hike wants Rhode Islanders to ‘#OptOutside’ this Black Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — On a day that is often spent shopping, a guided hike event this Black Friday is urging Rhode Islanders to get outside instead.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is hosting a one and a half-mile guided hike at George Washington Campground in Glocester as part of their annual #OptOutside initiative, which is sponsored by REI in partnership with the National Association of State Park Directors.

“DEM is excited to participate in the #OptOutside initiative and proud to host a hike at George Washington Campground,” said DEM Director Janet Coit. “Rhode Island has an amazing selection of historic parks and recreation areas throughout the state where residents and visitors can connect with nature and get active. We are excited to welcome folks to explore George Washington and its gorgeous scenic landscape as part of this event.”

The event is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Participants should dress appropriately.
