PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A three story home in the Smith Hill neighborhood in Providence is now a total loss, following a fire that broke out late last night.
Crews were called to Goddard Street around 11:30 p.m. for a report of fire coming from the building.
When firefighters arrived, they found fire coming from the first floor, going up through the attic.
Deputy Assistant Chief Craig Grantham said that all 8 residents inside the building got out safely.

He said around 50 firefighters responded to the three-alarm fire.
At one point, all firefighters were pulled from the building and they continued to attempt to put out the flames from the outside.
Crews had trouble getting up into the attic because there was no stairwell.
They were able to get the fire under control in about 2 and a half hours.
Grantham said the fire appears to have started on the first floor, but a cause is still under investigation.
No one was injured.
