Federal Hill fountain temporarily repaired

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A popular fountain on Federal Hill is back up and running just in time for the weekend.

According to the Federal Hill Commerce Association, employees from the Department of Public Works were able to temporarily repair and spruce up the fountain in DePasquale Square.

The fountain was damaged when a North Dartmouth man crashed into it last month.

Police said 21-year-old Kyle Smith was driving a Honda Civic and was stopped at a red light at the intersection of DePasquale and Atwells Avenues.

When the light turned green, police said Smith drove over the curb, hit a cement planter and crashed into the fountain. He then drove off, leaving his front bumper and license plate behind.

Smith is facing several traffic citations in connection with the crash.

It’s unclear when the fountain will be permanently fixed.
