Fallen soldiers remembered during ceremony in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Ahead of Memorial Day, Lieutenant Governor Dan McKee honored those who have died serving our country by laying a wreath at the “Garden of Heroes” this morning.

The wreath laying was followed by a moment of silence. The “Garden of Heroes” is located on the southwest lawn of the State House in Providence.

The memorial is dedicated to Rhode Island men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country since 9/11.

“Memorial Day gives us the chance to reflect on the legacies left behind by our fallen heroes. We remember their courage, we respect their dedication, and we vow to never forget their sacrifice,” Lt. Gov. Daniel McKee said. “I thank the families of our service members for the support they have given their sons, daughters and loved ones. We know that we are a better state and a better nation because of their selfless service. For that, we can never be grateful enough.”
