PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The proposed Hope Point Tower is expected to be reviewed by the Downtown Design Review Committee in a meeting Monday.

Recommendations will be given to the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission, which has previously agreed to sell the land.

The tower proposal has caused controversy, as the Providence City Council overrode Mayor Jorge Elorza’s veto to raise the zoning height of the building.

The design of the tower was one of the reasons Elorza vetoed the zoning change.

Many neighborhood groups, including the Providence Preservation Society and the Jewelry District Association, also oppose the project because of the tower’s design.
