PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — An early morning fire destroyed a Providence home on Monday.

Crews responding to a home on Warrington Avenue around 5 a.m. in the city’s Elmwood neighborhood found the home fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters are still at the home putting out hot spots, but one neighbor said the home looked like a “Christmas tree all lit up.”

“It was actually frightening and fascinating because I’ve never seen anything like this before and as I said the entire house was ablaze and I was really concerned about the nearby houses,” Geneva Johnson said.

There is no word on any injuries, but firefighters say they have been unable to search the inside of the home due to the floors collapsing inside.

Neighbors say there was nobody living in the building at the time.

Crews also say a car behind the home caught fire.

Despite the gusty winds, crews say the wind was not a factor in fighting this fire.
