Chemical concerns at scene of Providence fire

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Firefighters took precautions to protect themselves from potentially dangerous chemicals at the scene of an early morning fire Monday.

The fire broke out just before 4 a.m. on Aurora Street, which is near Valley Street and River Avenue.

Eyewitness News crews could see smoke pouring out of the industrial building.

Firefighters on scene said the building belonged to a plating company and there were some dangerous chemicals inside the building. Crews were told to fight the fire from outside the building as a precaution.

One worker was at the scene but was not injured. No firefighters had been treated at last check.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
