Civil rights icon Ruby Bridges addresses RIC graduates

Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Civil rights icon Ruby Bridges brought a message of inclusion and empowerment to Rhode Island College’s graduating class of 2019.

Bridges bravely attended an all-white school in 1960 when the south was still segregated and had to be escorted in and out by Federal Marshals every day for her safety.

On Saturday, she addressed a diverse crowd of graduates, their families, and friends at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence.
