PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Festival Ballet Providence is hosting a casting call for a dog to be part of The Nutcracker performances.

The ballet’s current acting dog “Archie” has been featured in more than 125 performances over the last 19 years, and now he’s retiring.

Festival Ballet Providence is looking for another dog to take Archie’s place.

A casting call is scheduled for Dec. 2 at the FBP studios at 825 Hope St. in Providence from 12-2 p.m.

According to FBP, the criteria for the role is simple:

  • Does your pup have an elegant prance?
  • A regal coat of fur?
  • A charming smile?
  • Have you always wanted a peek behind-the-scenes at the life of a professional ballet dancer?
  • Can he or she handle the paparazzi?

Eyewitness News reporter Kim Kalunian will be one of the judges at the audition.
