JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a recent theft from a landscaping company and nursery in Johnston.
The Johnston Police Department posted on its Facebook page Wednesday surveillance images of the suspect, which appears to be a man wearing a sweatshirt, construction boots and a baseball cap.
The man was seen on surveillance footage stealing several tools from Central Nurseries on Atwood Avenue earlier this month.
Police believe he stole two irrigation pumps, a demolition saw and a blower. The man was seen driving an older model Ford truck, possibly a Ranger or F-150.
Gianna Pagliarini, whose family owns the business, tells 12 News the thief not only took those items, but turned the sprinkler system off over a long weekend, causing them to lose several thousands of dollars worth of plants.
“We want them held accountable and we want this to stop,” she said. “I shouldn’t have to sit up every Saturday night watching the cameras with my iPad on midnight. I want to relax on the weekend i want to know i don’t have to worry about people coming in here. It’s really disheartening.”
Pagliarini said the suspected thief has returned to Central Nurseries at least three times over the last few weeks.
“It’s really disappointing. It’s 2020. We have all this stuff going on,” she said. “We’re trying as hard as we can to keep working to try and keep all of our employees working.”
Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has any additional information on the incident is asked to contact Detective Ryan Lemieux at (401) 757-3118.
