Police ask Johnston neighborhood to help nab armed robbery suspect

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are asking residents in a Johnston neighborhood to help investigators track down a man who they say robbed a convenience store at gunpoint on Sunday.

The Johnston Police Department reported Monday that a while male wearing a black zip-up jacket, black winter hat and a red ski mask entered the Shop N Go on Plainfield Pike and pointed a gun at the store clerk.

Police said the suspect demanded cash from the register and stole a pack of cigarettes before fleeing the scene. They also said following an investigation, they believe the Mercury Mariner and Mercedes initially mentioned in a press release Monday are not connected to the robbery.

Now, Johnston police are asking residents living in the surrounding neighborhood to review any home surveillance footage they may have from 3-3:45 p.m. Sunday in an effort to help police track the suspect.

Police also said following an investigation, they believe the Mercury Mariner and Mercedes initially mentioned are not connected to the robbery.
