PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A former North Providence and Pawtucket man will soon be sentenced to federal prison after police found thousands of images and videos of child pornography in his possession, including some that depicted him sexually assaulting a minor.

Robert Barrie, 41, pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of production and possession of child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Aaron Weisman.

Barrie was arrested in May 2015 after members of the R.I. State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force learned he was sharing child pornography online. While conducting a court-authorized search of his North Providence home, police said they seized electronic storage devices containing child pornography.

Barrie was also charged with child molestation after investigators discovered footage of him sexually assaulting a young female, Weisman said.

In July 2017, police conducted a search of a Pawtucket home from which child pornography was being shared and it turned out to be Barrie, who was awaiting trial on the earlier charges. He was again taken into custody and additional electronic devices were seized.

In total, Barrie had more than 11,400 images and videos of child pornography stored on the devices, according to police.

Barrie faces 15-40 years in federal prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 23.
