Firefighter injured at scene of Scituate crash

SCITUATE, R.I. (WPRI) — A firefighter was injured early Wednesday morning while on the scene of a car crash.

The Hope Jackson fire chief said one of his men was injured while assisting a tow truck at the scene of a car crash around 1:30 a.m.

According to the fire chief, the firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor calf injury. He is expected to be out of work for some time.

Crews were assisting on the scene after a car crashed into a pole in an intersection at Routes 6 and 116.

According to Scituate's police chief, the female driver of the car was not injured and was not charged. It appears she may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Power was knocked out in the area near the crash. National Grid is working to get power restored.
