Cause of Glocester house fire under investigation

GLOCESTER, R.I. (WPRI) — A Glocester home was completely destroyed by fire Wednesday night.

According to Harmony District Fire Chief Richard Waterman, the fire erupted from a home on Philip’s lane around 9 p.m.

Waterman said they were notified by a neighbor who saw the flames and called 911.

An Eyewitness News crew on scene saw several firetrucks and tankers from surrounding towns assisting the Harmony firefighters. Waterman said there were eight different departments on scene and approximately 50 firefighters.

Waterman said the home will most likely be a total loss. He said crews did not have a water supply nearby and had to rely on tankers to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office. Waterman said everyone inside the home was able to evacuate safely and no one was injured.
