BRAINTREE, Mass. (WPRI) – The Massachusetts State Lottery incorrectly reported that Wednesday night’s Powerball jackpot winning ticket was sold in Watertown.

The ticket worth $758.7 million was actually sold at the Pride Station & Store location at 27 Montgomery St. in Chicopee, Massachusetts. That means a $50,000 commission Handy Variety in Watertown thought it was getting will actually be much smaller.

Massachusetts State Lottery first reported the incorrect location early Thursday morning.

The correction was announced just before 8 a.m. Thursday in the following release. The Chicopee location sold the winning ticket. Handy Variety sold a $1 million dollar ticket.

Now, instead of a receiving a $50,000 commission, Handy Variety will be receiving $10,000.

“I was so excited, I didn’t know what to do,” Handy Variety owner Sonny Singh said about his initial reaction. “I was already planning my vacation, ya know, but it happens.”

Even though the commission is smaller, Singh said he knows how he’ll probably spend it.

“Well, I got some bills to pay and I’ve got kids…so.”
