BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have arrested two men in connection with a series of “sparkler bombs” that were set off in three Rhode Island neighborhoods last month.

Police arrested Bristol residents William Duckworth, 43, and Nathan Andrade, 26, following an extensive investigation into reported explosions in Bristol, Barrington and Warren.

Both men have been charged with two felony counts of placing explosive devices and conspiracy. Duckworth has also been charged with one felony count of placing explosive devices by the Barrington Police.

Police began investigating after residents reported hearing explosions close to their homes. While investigating the reports, detectives found at least one detonated device in each of the three communities.

Technicians with the Rhode Island Bomb Squad examined the bombs and determined they were cylindrical devices that contained sparklers wrapped in electrical tape.

Police said detectives were able to piece together a trail of evidence leading to Duckworth and Andrade. Both Bristol and Barrington police issued an arrest warrant for both men, who were taken into custody on Wednesday.

Duckworth and Andrade were released on $10,000 personal recognizance and their next court date is Feburary 20, 2019.

Police said they are continuing to investigate and there may be additional charges forthcoming.
