Owner of Bristol art gallery arrested

BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — A Bristol art gallery owner is facing check fraud charges, police announced Friday.

Bristol police said they executed a court-authorized search warrant at the Mint Gallery on Hope Street Thursday, and arrested 42-year-old Ethan Tucker on three counts of passing fraudulent checks.

Police said they began investigating check fraud complaints against Tucker late last month. Soon after, police said they learned numerous artists had complaints against Tucker and the gallery, and six of those artists were willing to pursue criminal complaints.

Those artists had made arrangements with Tucker to sell their works at the gallery. According to police, the six artists claimed that they either never received any money for their pieces, did not get them back if they asked for them to be returned, or received checks from Tucker that ended up bouncing.

Police said Tucker went before a bail commissioner Thursday and was released. He is due in court in February for arraignment.
