BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — Democrat June Speakman has won the special election to represent House District 68, according to the Rhode Island Democratic Party.
Speakman, a Roger Williams University professor, defeated three other candidates for the seat in Bristol and Warren.
“The voters have spoken and have shown that every voice and every vote matter,” Speakman said in a statement. “I will work hard to make a difference and am eager to get to work for our community.”
Last November, District 68 voters elected Democrat Laufton Ascencao to represent them. But Ascencao stepped aside rather than take the oath of office after he admitted to forging documents related to his campaign activities.
