Car pulled from water after driving through stop sign in Newport

East Bay

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — Crews in Newport pulled a car out of the water early Thursday morning.

Police say a driver failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Van Zandt Avenue and Washington Street before rolling into the bay.

The driver was the only person in the car at the time and was not injured, police said.

It’s unclear if the person was cited.

The incident remains under investigation.
