NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for a string of car break-ins.

Police said they arrested Thomas Fisher, 35, on Thursday. They said they received a tip that a man walking down Eddie Dowling Highway matched the description of the person in a surveillance video posted on social media.

Investigators contacted Fisher and used his tattoos to identify him as the man in the video. A search warrant was executed for Fisher’s home, where police said they found several stolen items.

Fisher was charged with five counts of tampering with an auto and five counts of larceny from a motor vehicle.

Police said Fisher is a District Court probation violator and has previous convictions for larceny and tampering. He is expected in court Friday.
