CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — Two Central Falls schools were placed on lockdown Wednesday morning as police responded to a report of gunshots nearby.

Police said officers were called to the corner of Illinois and Summer Streets around 10:15 a.m. Eyewitnesses told police they saw three male suspects: two ran south on Illinois Street then west on Rand Street while the third ran east on Summer Street then south on Washington Street.

Central Falls High School and Calcutt Middle School were locked down as police canvassed the area for suspects.

No injuries were reported and no arrests had been announced as of Wednesday evening.

Police said they don’t believe the schools nor anyone inside them were targets.

Anyone with information on the shots fired is asked to contact Det. Jeff Araujo at (401) 616-2516 or jaraujo@cfpd.centralfallsri.gov.
