PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A woman was rushed to the hospital Wednesday evening after being shot several times in the chest, according to Pawtucket Police Sgt. Christopher LeFort.

The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. at a home on Baxter Street.

LeFort said the woman, 54, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

An Eyewitness News crew on scene saw officers carrying what appeared to be marijuana plants from the home.

Neighbor Alyssa Allen tells Eyewitness News she heard three to four gunshots before police arrived.

“I was kind of hoping they were fireworks, but then I heard the sirens,” Allen said.

The incident remains under investigation at this time. It’s unclear if police have anyone in custody.
