PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man died following a motorcycle crash on I-95 in Pawtucket Friday afternoon.

Rhode Island State Police say, Christopher Varble, 37, was driving a Yamaha sport bike in the high-speed lane of Route 95 South. As he approached the Broadway overpass he struck the jersey barrier in the center median.

As a result of the collision, Varble was thrown off his motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Pawtucket Fire Department.

According to police Varble had not been wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.

All lanes of traffic were closed for about 30 minutes and it took around 3 hours for first responders to clear the scene. Traffic was backed up for miles throughout the evening commute.
