PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A Pawtucket man was arrested Thursday as police look into an incident that sent his young daughter to the hospital.
Pawtucket police said they began investigating last week after receiving a report of a 15-month-old who possibly ingested an unknown drug.
Detectives spoke with her father, Michael Wittlin, who said he called 911 after “finding a white, rock-like substance in his daughter’s mouth.”
Wittlin, 30, told the detectives he removed the substance from the girl’s mouth, tasted it, and his whole mouth went numb. He also said he flushed the substance down the toilet before an ambulance arrived to take the girl to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for evaluation, according to police.
Police then spoke to the girl’s mother, who said she was working at the time and didn’t learn about the incident until Wittlin called and told her about it.
Following his arrest, Wittlin was arraigned in district court Thursday on a charge of cruelty to or neglect of a child.
