CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — A pedestrian was taken to the hospital Wednesday night after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Central Falls.
The man was hit at about 8:45 p.m. on Higginson Avenue, according to Central Falls Police Chief James Mendonca.
Chief Mendonca says the victim has an “extensive” injury to his right leg.
The chief also told Eyewitness News that police have information about a suspect vehicle, but will not release it at this time because they believe it would be “detrimental” to the case.
City resident Israel Rivera said he had just finished coaching flag football when he spotted the man lying in the road.
“I sat there and tried to make him calm and the other dude sat there and tied something around his leg, ’cause it was broken and his bone was out,” Rivera recalled.
Rivera said he and another man sat with the victim until police and paramedics arrived on scene. The victim appeared to be a younger man, possibly in his 20’s, according to Rivera.
“I pray for him,” Rivera added. “And I hope I can see him again to show him that I was there for him.”
