PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A deadly shooting in Pawtucket over the weekend is under investigation.

Pawtucket police said they responded to the corner of Carnation Street and Broadway around 7:45 p.m. Sunday and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, later identified as Jovani L. Velez, 28, of Cumberland, was taken to the hospital where he later died.

A neighbor told 12 News he heard a bang and saw a car that appeared to have a rear window shattered.

It was the city’s second homicide of the year after a double shooting last week left one man dead and another wounded.
