PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Two Pawtucket residents are without a home after a fire tore through it Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters rushed to the Halliday Street home just after 4 p.m. for reports of smoke and flames shooting from the windows.

Pawtucket Fire Chief John Trenteseaux said both residents weren’t home at the time. Their two cats died in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The American Red Cross is assisting both residents.
