PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Seven people were forced from their home after a fire broke out Sunday night in Pawtucket.

Crews responding to Birchland Avenue around 10 p.m. found the home fully engulfed in flames.

Battalion Chief Scott Johnson said they went in for a search and rescue after there were reports of a child inside, but a short time later they determined all residents made it out safely.

As crews worked to control the flames, a mayday call was sounded off after the back deck collapsed with a firefighter on it.
