GLENDALE, AZ (WPRI) — John Murray and his daughter Shayna have taken part in a very special and unique tradition.
They have been to every Patriots Super Bowl game ever.
When Shayna was just seven years old, back in 1985, she and her father went to their first Super Bowl game.
From then on a tradition was born.
“It was one and then two, now its kinda we have to do it,” said John Murray. “We have to keep up the thing. I hope we come to many more.”
John has a tattoo on his arm marking every New England Patriots Championship. Each of those games and memories have been spent with his daughter.
“Oh, it means a lot. We have a lot of fun. We’re like buddies, we have a lot of fun together,” said John
They took in the atmosphere around Glendale, just as they did in 2008.
“We have a lot of laughs..we definitely laugh a lot on these trips,” said Shayna. “And years later we’ll be like ‘oh remember in New Orleans, remember in Indy’…we have a lot of fun.”
But the game itself has been just that, a game. The bond between a father and daughter creates memories for a lifetime.
“I cant imagine going to a Super Bowl without her now,” he said.
His daughter echoed the same sentiment.
“Oh, I can’t go without my father. I cant even imagine doing anything like this without him,” she said.
John looks like he’ll need to add “2014” to his growing tattoo.
He said they plan on going to the Super Bowl next year in California, so you already know what that means.
