PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Dozens of walkers turned out at Roger Williams Park Sunday for a 5K with a very focused message.

The “Jayce The Healer Foundation” held its first walk to prevent childhood drowning.

The foundation, which was founded by a local mother whose 18-month-old son drowned in a pool two years ago, works to educate caregivers and children about water safety.

The group says drowning is the second leading cause of death in children between the ages of one and 14.
