PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Protesters outside of the ‘Superman’ building were fighting against the call for tax-payer money to be used to rehabilitate the skyscraper.

The rally was organized by the state’s Libertarian party Thursday. They say “bad private business investments should not be remedied with public money.”

Currently, no tax payer money has been approved to go toward the reopening of the building.

The building’s owners tried to secure money in the last session at the State House. They were asking for millions in tax-payer-funded subsidies, but the session ran out of time and no money was awarded.

A spokesman for the owner said he was unsure if they will try submitting legislation again next session.

There are talks of a tax credit program that would help restoration though, he stated.
