CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — In the latest sign of growth and change at Cranston’s Garden City Center shopping mall, a Legal Sea Foods alternative concept restaurant, known as Legal Sea Bar, is opening Tuesday afternoon.
The restaurant is opening in a new 30,000-foot building, situated across from the Cohoes clothing and Party City retailers.
The stalwart New England seafood chain has grown to outlets in six states, and multiple types of restaurants. To differ from its upscale fare, the Legal Sea Bar (known as Legal C Bar in some locations) is smaller and centered around casual seafood offerings and cocktails. Patio seating will also be offered.
The mall is celebrating its 70th year in operation. Though it lost one key retailer, Banana Republic, in April, the new building is bringing restaurants Tropical Smoothie Cafe, The Simple Greek, and Tavern in the Square to hungry shoppers.
Some die-hard fans of Rhode Island icons were disappointed part of the display of shrubs spelling “GARDEN CITY” would become just “GARDEN” to make space for the new building.
